Golf wedge engraving vs stamping UK 2026: why laser engraving with colour fill beats hand stamping for detail, length, consistency and the club itself. TaylorMade, Ping, Titleist and Callaway wedges from £164.99.

A personalised wedge gets looked at on almost every shot inside 100 yards, so how the personalisation goes on matters as much as what it says. There are three ways to do it: hand stamping, paint-fill and laser engraving. We used to offer stamping alongside engraving. We now engrave every wedge we personalise, and this guide explains why.

The Three Methods at a Glance

MethodHow it worksWhat it can doOur verdict
Laser engravingA laser marks the design into the metalAny wording, any length, icons and fine detailWhat we use on every wedge
StampingA steel punch is struck into the head, one letter at a timeShort text in the punch set's fontCharacterful, but limited

Why Engraving Beats Stamping

Say what you actually want to say

Stamping works letter by letter with a fixed set of punches, so it suits initials, a number or one short word. Anything longer gets crowded, and a wedge's toe has very little room. Engraving has no such limit: a full name, a date, a short message or a course name all fit, at a size chosen to suit the space.

Detail a punch cannot reach

A punch can only make the shape on its tip. Engraving reproduces fine lettering, small serif fonts and icons cleanly, so a crest-style icon, a flag or a date can sit alongside the name. On our wedges you can add icons straight from the personalisation tool.

No hammer on a forged head

Stamping drives a punch into the head with real force. Engraving is contact-free, and it marks the back, toe or sole, never the face, so spin, feel and the grind you chose are unaffected.

Every letter where you put it

A hand-stamped line is struck one character at a time, so spacing and alignment depend on the hand holding the punch, and a mis-strike cannot be taken back. Engraving follows the exact layout you approved in the preview, letter for letter.

You still get the stamped look

If you like the bold, blocky tour-stamp style, choose the Stamp-style font in the personalisation tool. It gives you the look of a hand-stamped wedge, with every letter placed exactly where you set it.

Where Paint-Fill Fits In

Paint-fill on its own only colours marks that are already there. Paired with engraving it is at its best: we fill your engraved lettering with model paint, so your text stands out against chrome, nickel or black. There are 14 colours to choose from, including white, black, gold, silver, red, blue, green and volt green.

Paint sits on top of the metal, so after seasons of bunker shots and wet grass it can wear. The engraving underneath does not wear away, so the design is still there and the colour can be refreshed.

What to Engrave

  • Milestones: a name and date for a 40th, 50th, retirement or wedding.
  • Club captains: the captaincy year and their name.
  • Hole in one: course, hole number and date.
  • Just for you: initials, a lucky number or a favourite saying.

How Ordering Works

Engraving is included in the price of the wedge. Choose your wedge and configuration, add your text and any icons, pick a font and fill colour, and check the preview before adding it to your basket.

Custom club orders take about 10 working days for engraving and quality inspection before dispatch, then 3-5 business days UK standard delivery. Delivery is free over £75, so every wedge order qualifies. As wedges are personalised to order, returns are only possible if the wedge arrives damaged or faulty.

FAQ

Q: Is laser engraving on a golf wedge permanent? A: Yes. The engraving is marked into the metal and will not wash off. The paint-fill colour can wear with heavy use, but the engraved design stays.

Q: Does engraving affect wedge performance? A: No. We engrave the back, toe or sole, never the face, so spin, distance and the grind are unaffected.

Q: Do you still offer stamped wedges? A: No. We now engrave every wedge, because it allows longer wording, finer detail and exact placement. If you love the stamped look, choose the Stamp-style font.

Q: What is the difference between stamping and engraving? A: Stamping strikes a steel punch into the head one letter at a time, so it is limited to short text in the punch set's font. Engraving uses a laser, so it can reproduce any wording, font or icon exactly as laid out.

Q: What colours can the lettering be? A: 14 paint-fill colours, including white, black, gold, silver, red, blue, green and volt green.

Q: What is the best wedge for a personalised gift? A: The Titleist Vokey SM11 Chrome at £184.99 is the classic choice. For the best value, the Callaway Opus SP at £164.99.

Engraving Lasts as Long as the Wedge

A wedge stays in the bag for years, and the personalisation should last as long. Engraving gives you the wording you want, the detail you want and exactly the layout you approved, with colour that can be refreshed whenever you like.
